Becoming involved in SAR is a commitment that should never be taken lightly. The sacrifices associated with an active participation in SAR are often more than most are willing to make. Nearly always, missions occur at the least convenient time. Most searches occur in the middle of the night during the worst weather conditions and frequently you will be faced with decisions of missing commitments the following day and going without sleep for prolonged periods of time. However, despite these and other challenges, many find great personal satisfaction with their involvement in search and rescue.

The individuals we are most interested in recruiting have either current ATV or snowmobile riding skills or recent search and rescue experience. However, anyone with a sincere desire to participate in search and rescue should apply and will be considered.

Some of the basic requirements include a minimum age of 21 prior to the start of training, no criminal background, a Washington State driver’s license, a permanent address (no P.O. Boxes), and the ability and willingness to acquire gear, complete all trainings and participate in missions. In addition prospective members must complete and pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) online training courses before background check forms are submitted.

Abuse of narcotics or controlled substances, addiction to intoxicants, conviction of DUI, a poor driver’s record, and an incomplete application are a few of the disqualifications.

If you are interested in becoming a RRAMSAR team member fill out the Volunteer Interest Form and mail it to us or bring it to our next meeting. If you would like immediate contact, you can reach us via email at  info@rramsar.org or call our message line at (206) 279-4727 (4SAR).

RRAMSAR holds monthly general member meetings at the YMCA in Puyallup 302- 43rd Avenue SE, Puyallup WA 98374. Meetings are every first Thursday of each month and start at 7:00pm unless pre-empted by mission activity. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
